Wares Farm, Linton, Maidstone

Civils Contracting Ltd. was approached about designing and constructing a 200,000 ft² facility. The facility had to include cold stores, a fruit packing hall & 50,000 ft² mezzanine for offices.

As part of this project, we assisted with the planning process. From this, we decided to drop the building 5 metres into the ground and optimise the levels so that we would reduce the impact of the building on the surrounding landscape.

To do this, we had to excavate 80,000m³ of soil and cement as well as complete lime stabilisation of around 30,000m³ so that we could reuse it under and around the building. All the excavated materials stayed on-site in bunds throughout the process.

To ensure that the building fit in with the landscape surrounding it, we designed a building that reflected the area it was in. A big part of this design was the impressive entrance foyer that comprises structural glass with “spider” fittings. On the exterior, we also added living green walls to either side of the entrance, along with rust-effect modular cladding. These features reflect the colouring of the surrounding area, helping the building to merge with the landscape.

Designing a building that will blend in can be difficult. We are experts in our field and will work with you to ensure your building functions as you need while integrating with its surroundings.
