The construction of a new high-specification hangar with office, FBO and maintenance facilities. We developed, designed, managed and constructed the project to provide the client with a unique tailor made facility. The building is split into three distinct zones with maintenance and office provision at one end of the building, the hangar in the middle and further offices and the FBO at the end nearest the runway.
Features of the hangar are its clear 89m span with sliding doors which can give a clear opening of 58m x 9.6m high. The hangar has two overhead cranes, a high level glazed walkway joining the offices at either end of the building, recessed hangar floor boxes with a range of communication, power and compressed air connections. The floor is finished with a showroom gloss shine epoxy resin screed. The entire building is protected by a state-of-the-art security and CCTV system.
At the start of the project, the entire site was reduced in level to keep the building within the allowable criteria for the nearby runway. This necessitated the excavation and removal of 10,000m³, all of which was checked for ordnance as the site was heavily bombed during the Second World War.
